The following are letters submitted by participants,attending the 2026 PLP summer project held in Los Angeles from July 23-26:

This summer project felt so impactful since it was technically my one year anniversary of being in the Party. Not only did I come back with skills from organizing with groups in college but also just taking the time day by day to enhance my engagement skills with the community.

This project allowed me to come out of my shell and become more of a leader especially at rallies. Not only from this, but also my speech from leading May Day in Santa Cruz got amazing reception during a CHALLENGE sale and protest.

Something else I felt really strongly about was our study group on dialectical materialism. Although the concepts were really abstract, we figured it out as a collective through the use of concrete examples, which allowed so many more people to understand the topics we were discussing.
I look forward to next year’s summer project!

LA’s 2026 summer project showed the Party’s fight back, creativity, and growth. We started off with some good bonding and study groups. The next days, the fighting spirit and creativity of the Party’s next generation really came through.

Watching newer members of the Party make it out to our usual CHALLENGE sale spots and reaching out to the working class in the community was inspiring.

We had a great CHALLENGE article about fighting back against ICE and racist killer cops, which resonated with the community. Also, our fights back alongside Bryan Bostic’s family proved really inspiring as we marched through the community along with the family through the summer heat. The future of spreading communism throughout LA is very bright.

I am a young Party member who participated in the 2026 LA summer project. Throughout the project, I participated in various study groups, rallies, and CHALLENGE sales.

I think the highlight for me was getting on the bullhorn and giving my first speech. As someone who usually keeps to themselves, I was nervous to speak, however, I realized that I was speaking up for what I believe in. I was able to speak confidently and go up multiple times.

Another highlight was interactions on the streets during CHALLENGE sales. Many young people seemed interested and open-minded to communism. I had very good conversations, encouraging them to get involved with PLP.

This summer project taught me a lot about communism, the Party, and the minds of our fellow working class people. I look forward to the summer project and seeing our comrades from other cities.

During this summer project, I enjoyed conversations with comrades about imperialism, dialectical materialism, and how they apply to current events. It was great to strengthen relationships with other comrades, and seeing newer comrades give speeches and lead chants.

Many people were receptive to our message when we went into the neighborhoods, whether it was by taking some literature or honking in support of our rallies. From this summer project, I will take away the strength I found in working together with my comrades and the community.

The summer project in my experience was fun. I enjoyed working with my comrades. All of the activities were meaningful. It gives me an outlet to express and shine light on issues that would most often go overlooked.

I hope more summer projects come in the future, and I hope I am able to bring more people to our cause. I am looking forward to the next one. Thank you PLP!

With this being my first summer project, I am left with nothing but a stronger relationship with PLP and dialectical materialism. From our talk in the car on the way to demonstrations to listening to our study group’s podcast, I can say this has been nothing less than educational.

We built a strong base within our community and all across the greater LA area. There was a great response to our confident speakers on the bullhorn from the working class. Selling CHALLENGE was a great way to talk to people on an individual basis.

In my experience this summer, I got to have a great conversation with an elder who organized the Black Panther Party in the past. He gave me advice on moving forward and sharing his past experience with having worked in a communist party himself.

This summer has been a teaching and learning moment, and I am happy to be both a teacher and a student till the end!

As I looked around the room during one of our study groups on imperialism at the LA summer project, I couldn’t help but become emotional as to how our Party has grown in the area. Just 11 short years ago, the Party in LA was one club composed of people who had been in the Party for a long time. The impact of the split of our organization here still lingered and it was hard to find inspiration.

Fast forward just over a decade, and I’m sitting in a room filled with 30 motivated and dedicated multiracial young people who are bursting at the seams to learn as much as they can and then get into the streets to put it into practice. They are all in love with communism and can’t wait to share it with anyone who will listen.

In the fall, we hope to expand from our current three clubs into five clubs. We will continue our young leaders study sessions and expand our city committee. And that is how our quantitative developments will turn into a qualitative leap for the future strength of our organization in Southern California.

My experience with this year’s summer project has been really fun. I feel like I grew as a communist and as a person. 

I have a fear of speaking in front of people, but I overcame that and did my first speech on the bullhorn this year. I feel like I reached a lot of people with my voice and that I was able to become a leading voice in the fight against the bosses.

I also learned more about the issues going on around me and how I can make a difference not only with people that I know but also people that I see on the street.
